Year Here

Year Here

Year Here is a postgraduate course in social innovation based in London. Unlike a traditional Master's degree, Year Here is immersive, action-oriented and grounded in the daily experience of those at the frontline of inequality. The course is designed to cultivate entrepreneurial approaches to entrenched social problems. Students, known as Fellows, don’t pay a tuition fee. Instead, the value they create for clients during the programme covers the course costs. Since launching in 2013, 79 Fellows have collectively volunteered 50,000 hours in frontline services supporting London’s most vulnerable and marginalised citizens such as homeless hostels, elderly care homes and Pupil Referral Units. And Fellows have launched 18 ventures including Settle, a service supporting vulnerable young people into their first homes and Birdsong, a fashion brand selling clothes handcrafted by women’s groups – from elderly knitters to migrant seamstresses – with a ‘no sweatshops, no photoshop’ ethos.
